The hardest truth for any caregiver to face is knowing that the world is built for childhood, but deserts adults.
For years, families fight tooth and nail to secure educational support, sensory tools, and predictable routines. But the moment adulthood hits, the system pulls the rug out from under them.
Where are the long-term residential communities? Where are the structured vocational spaces designed for neurodivergent nervous systems? Where is the safety net that ensures an autistic adult won't be left isolated when their parents age or pass away?
True inclusion doesn't stop at high school graduation. We need permanent, dignified infrastructure and community housing that respects autonomy, regulation, and lifelong support.
Let's stop treating adult disability care as an afterthought.
