🕊️ IN LOVING MEMORY OF GENERAL JOSEPH LAGU YANGA 🇸🇸 | November 21, 1931 – October 27, 2026

With profound sadness, we mourn the passing of General Joseph Lagu Yanga, a founding leader of the Anya-Nya 1 liberation movement and former President of the High Executive Council of the Southern Sudan Autonomous Region. He passed away at the age of 94 following a long illness.

A liberation hero, military leader, and pioneer of South Sudan’s struggle for self-determination, General Lagu played a historic role in the Anya-Nya 1 movement and the 1972 Addis Ababa Peace Agreement, which ended the First Sudanese Civil War and granted southern Sudan regional autonomy.

His leadership helped shape a defining chapter in the history of South Sudan. His contributions to the liberation struggle and his dedication to the cause of southern Sudanese self-determination will remain part of our national history.

Today, we remember a man whose life was intertwined with the struggle for freedom, peace, and dignity for the people of Southern Sudan.

Though he is gone, his legacy will continue to live in the memories of generations to come.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️

Our deepest condolences go to his family, loved ones, and the people of South Sudan. 🇸🇸
