Almost six years ago,
@tvkatesnow was the first journalist to interview me after the news of Sammy’s death went viral on
@nbcnightlynewsIt was just days after we lost him, and I barely remember our conversation. I was in shock, trying to comprehend that my beautiful 16-year-old boy was gone.
But I remember why I spoke out. I had just learned that deadly fentanyl-laced pills could be delivered to our front door as easily as ordering a pizza, and that Snapchat's algorithms could connect drug dealers with our children.
I couldn't save Sammy, but I was desperate to save someone else's child and spare another family our fate.
And now, almost six years later, Kate and I are sitting down together again. This time, we're talking about my new book, Crying Out Loud, and everything I've learned about grief, healing, and finding a way to live after the unimaginable.
What a full-circle moment. Kate met me in the earliest, most shattered days of my grief. Now we're talking about where this journey has taken me.
I would trade every book, interview, and bit of advocacy to have Sammy back. But since I can't, I'll keep finding ways to turn my love for him into something that might help others.
Thank you, Kate, for being there at the beginning and for helping me share this next chapter. ❤️🩹
