Democrats are projected to take control of both the United States House of Representatives and the Senate following the 2026 midterm elections, dealing a major political blow to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Democrats are projected to win around 255 seats in the House, well above the 218 needed for a majority, marking their return to power after four years.

The victory will give Democrats the power to investigate Trump’s administration, including his immigration policies, business dealings and cryptocurrency ventures.

Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries is also expected to become the first Black Speaker of the House when the new Congress takes office on January 3, 2027.

The results come amid growing public dissatisfaction with Trump’s policies, including immigration crackdowns, rising living costs and the war with Iran.

Dearborn made history Tuesday as more than 45,000 votes were cast, marking the highest voter turnout in the city’s history, according to Mayor Abdullah Hammoud.

Democrat Abdul El-Sayed secured approximately 82% of the vote in Dearborn in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race. Following the results, El-Sayed released a video thanking Dearborn residents for their overwhelming support and for showing up at the polls in record numbers.
