A controversy erupted on Bigg Boss Malayalam after contestant Neha Fatima expressed her feelings for fellow contestant Santosh Raj. Her parents later entered the house and asked host Mohanlal to let them take her home. The incident has sparked an online debate about parental interference, religious differences and a woman’s freedom to choose her partner.

The controversy also raises questions about how consistently society stands up for women’s independence.
