I set parameters with care, laying a stable foundation for moments like the one in this video. I paint through the structure in an act of self-assertion, flipping the table, an f#@!-this moment to anything trying to pin me down. It’s a refusal to paint myself into a corner. It’s me saying that autonomy is of the utmost importance. That includes making the art I want to make. It means that my vision matters, no matter preconceptions about my gender and age. I paint.
