In May 2025, 22-year-old former missionary Krew Zaugg met a 15-year-old girl. The victim’s family explained that she had recently lost her grandfather and was vulnerable, looking for a friend. Even though she explicitly told Zaugg her age before they met in person, he picked her up and sexually assaulted her inside his locked Tesla. In court, Zaugg tearfully told the judge that on the night of the crime, he had just broken up with his girlfriend and was desperately seeking comfort. He stated: "I was feeling sad, lonely and miserable. Instead of dealing with those things in a mature and responsible way, I made an impulsive decision." While released on bail awaiting trial, Zaugg reconciled with that same girlfriend and married her. Zaugg was originally charged with rape of a victim under 16 and lewd conduct with a child. Under a plea agreement, prosecutors amended the charge to felony battery with intent to commit a serious felony, dismissing the lewd conduct charge. District Judge Michael Whyte placed Zaugg on a one-year "rider" program (retained jurisdiction) in a correctional facility. While he carries an underlying sentence of 4 to 18 years, successfully completing the treatment program within that year gives the judge the option to place him on probation instead of sending him to state prison for the full term. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and maintain no contact with the victim for 14 years.
“The Congratulations and Gratitude Tour” - five months of travel reflecting appreciation and admiration back on our partners, teams, suppliers, NASA Centers, and everyone who took the Artemis II mission into their hearts. The offstage moments of reflection and recharging, learning and remembering, stumbling and receiving will all define a season for me of rediscovering Earth and my crewmates.

“Journalists continue to pay an outrageous price for telling the truth.” On Monday’s International Day to #EndImpunity for Crimes against Journalists, UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres calls for the protection of media professionals worldwide so they can safely carry out their essential work. He noted that journalists are often harassed, surveilled, sued, physically attacked or imprisoned — and sometimes even tortured or killed — simply for doing their jobs. “Nothing should impede journalists’ ability to do their work, which is fundamental to human rights, democracy and the rule of law.”
