The 1997 adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella gave audiences one of the most memorable fairy tales in television history. Starring Brandy as Cinderella, Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother, Whoopi Goldberg as Queen Constantina and Paolo Montalbán as Prince Christopher, the film became a beloved classic thanks to its incredible music, elaborate costumes and groundbreaking diverse casting. One detail that still makes fans laugh is the royal family. Whoopi Goldberg played the Black queen, Victor Garber played the white king, and somehow their biological son was Filipino actor Paolo Montalbán. Apparently, genetics worked a little differently in this kingdom, and nobody was about to question it! The film attracted more than 60 million viewers during its original broadcast and helped redefine what a fairy tale could look like. Nearly three decades later, audiences still celebrate its inclusive casting, unforgettable performances and the simple fact that when Whitney Houston is your Fairy Godmother, absolutely anything is possible. 👑😂✨
