I voted yesterday on the shoulders of the people whose blood runs through our veins. Our Bigdaddy, T. L. Mency, was 40 years old before he was allowed to vote. My Great Grandmother, Nettie (whom after Aubree’s grandmother is named) was Black Cherokee Native American (born on Georgia soil), and was 77 years old before she could vote. My paternal grandmother, Eula Mae, was born 50 years after the Emancipation of Black Americans and 50 years before the right to vote was afforded African Americans. My Great Great Grandmother, Mamie died without the right to vote (ironically, she was born on the 4th of July), and my Great Great Great Grandmother Isabella (and Aubree’s Great Great Great Great Grandmother) was born a free woman in this state, and the right for “niggers” to vote was never even considered in her lifetime. So to all those who bled and died for African Americans to vote in this land of the free and home of the brave, I cast my ballot with honor and pride, and the utmost bit of gratitude for your nobility, dignity and sacrifice. And while she is not old enough to vote, I’m PROUD to say Aubree watched me vote for Kamala Harris 2024, and @keishaforga in 2026.
