⚖️ FOIE GRAS FACE-OFF: D.C.'s proposed foie gras ban could be headed to court before it ever takes effect.

One of America's biggest foie gras producers is already consulting lawyers about a potential challenge if voters approve Initiative 86 on Tuesday.

💵 FOLLOW THE MONEY: D.C. estimates enforcement will cost $314,000 over four years — money that hasn't been budgeted. The producer warns that legal bills could run much higher.

🏛️ THE PRECEDENT: A similar ban in NYC has been tied up in court for years. @hudsonvalleyfoiegras and other farms helped stall that law, and it's now eyeing D.C.

🦆 THE OTHER SIDE: @proanimaldc isn't backing down. "We're not worried," the campaign tells Axios, arguing that a New York farm "doesn't get to overrule" D.C. voters.

📅 WHAT'S NEXT: If approved, the ban is slated to take effect July 1, 2027. But the fight over foie gras may be far from over.

Farm’s a bit of a misnomer. Torture factory seems a lot more accurate.

New York City voters overwhelmingly approved a ban on foie gras. We will keep defending our law in court.

Foie gras is highly controversial and the public overwhelmingly supports foie gras bans. Pretty crappy of these foie gras companies that have been abusing animals for years to sue a city for taking action on something they should have stopped doing years ago.

Imagine clinging to the consumption of diseased livers taken from force-fed birds. The depravity of some humans knows no limits.

The only people that give a shit about opposing this are the same restaurant groups that resist paying their staffs a living wage. Maybe give us more coverage of DC government or what accountability exists for all the federal agencies marching over the city?
