It was a cool night with a light mist and a full harvest moon on the rise. We had just rocked Farm Aid, Virginia Beach for 14,000 people and we were flying high hanging with the fam.
Swarms of fans, musicians and media folks were trying to get our attention. We stayed huddle together near the Silver Eagle, Neil’s classic old bus.
All of a sudden I heard a calm voice say “hi Anthony” and it was Max Flanders. I was excited to meet Max because he’s the current drummer in The Lukas Nelson Band.
Things got more surreal as I found out Max and I are from the same hood. We grew up only blocks away from each other and graduated from the same high school 10 years apart. His cousin Brett was one of my best child hood friends who I grew up with. Max and I probably had the same brand of metronome growing up!
It was psychedelic to say the least, and I was happy to meet and share road stories!
Drummers are so cool and always bond but especially when they are from the same hood. It’s never competition but always a universal rhythm we share.
Keep on rockin Max!
