7 days agoThe challenge I find is it's really hard to be a subjective judge of which of your tracks are the best fit for a label. Lots of my signings have definitely not been the ones I thought were best for a label. I assumed that labels skip through them anyway to see what grabs them, more chance to find gold if there's more to choose from. That being said I can see it wouldn't be a fun day having to sift through 100s of questionable demos
7 days agoTotally agree that a focused, on-point demo makes everyone's life easier, and A&Rs definitely appreciate not having to dig through their inbox..Time is precious on both sides!! That said, my experience has been a bit different. I've had tracks signed that I was sure wouldn't fit a label's portfolio, so over time I started sending a mix: some tracks I think match the label’s sound, plus a few in a different vibe or direction. I also tend to send a slightly larger batch, because I want to show the bigger picture of what I do as an artist.. It really varies from label to label! Ofc! and I think every track has its own home somewhere. For me the key is to keep sending music and to build a solid network of A&Rs who understand your work and want to take care of it. Big hugs to everyone.. and keep the music flowing!!
