"A lunch break is as much about rest as it is about eating," Alabama poet and musician Lee Bains @gloryfires said in yesterday's SouthTalk. Bains played guitar and read from "Work Lunch," his @hubcitywriters debut poetry collection that explores the multifaceted and often contradictory nature of Southern culture and values through the lens of food.
"What my art is trying to deal with is that question of place. Pay close attention to a tangible experience," Bains said in yesterday's craft talk conversation with @maxissippi @exploradoracoffee.
Stay tuned for the month of November with more SouthTalks events, including a film screening of "Natchez" with visiting documentarian Susannah Herbert at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, and Kevin Harrell's presentation about incarcerated caregivers at Angola at noon Wednesday, Nov. 4.
