Day 0. We hadn't run a single kilometre yet.
The road in: a dawn stop in the middle of nowhere — stretch our legs, and empty our tanks for whoever needed to go. Last call before the desert. Then the road gave out and we rolled into the bivouac — rows of black tents, Moroccan tea and sweets waiting as a welcome, and the flags of every country in the race. Of course I stopped at Egypt's. 🇪🇬
At the briefing they told us: "The world you know ends here." Then came Roosevelt — the man in the arena, covered in dirt and dust and sand, striving valiantly.
That evening, my friend Hasbaoui lit our first fire and put the water on. And the next day they called our names, we handed in our gear, and I sent my last transmission for seven days.
Tomorrow, the 270 kilometres begin. See you at the start line. 🏜️
اليوم صفر. ولسه ماجريناش ولا كيلو واحد.
الطريق كان طويل: وقفنا استراحة في نص الصحرا نفرد رجلينا ونفضي التنكات — للمحتاج يعني 😅 وبعدين وصلنا المخيم — خيم سودا مرصوصة على الرمل، وشاي مغربي وحلويات في الاستقبال، وأعلام كل الدول المشاركة بالترتيب… وطبعًا وقفت عند علم مصر واتصورت 🇪🇬
وفي الإحاطة قالولنا جملة عمري ما هنساها: «العالم اللي تعرفه بيخلص هنا». وبالليل صاحبي حسباوي ولّع أول نار وحط المية تسخن. وتاني يوم نادوا على أسامينا، سلّمنا عدّتنا، وبعتّ آخر إرسال ليا لمدة سبع تيام.
بكرة يبدأ الـ٢٧٠ كيلو. دعواتكم — ونتقابل على خط البداية. 🏜️
