A longstanding campaigner for racial justice and Windrush rights, Sir Patrick brings more than 30 years of experience in public health, community development and equality advocacy.

Established in 2021, the Observatory examines disparities affecting Black and minority ethnic patients and NHS staff, with a focus on issues including maternal healthcare, sickle cell disease and mental health.

Welcoming his appointment, Sir Patrick said: “Now is the pivotal time to address racial disparities, anti-racism and tackle long-standing health inequalities which continue to impact our communities, patients and colleagues.”
