A Gujarat session court has sentenced three Muslim convicts to life imprisonment in a 2024 cow slaughter case, citing Hindu scriptures including the Manusmriti, Rig Veda and Harivamsa Purana in its judgment. The Additional Sessions Court in Kalol, Gandhinagar district, convicted Wasim Qureshi, Mohammad Rafiq Qureshi and Ashfaq Behlime after police recovered 277 kg of meat from a house in Jamla village in August 2024. Laboratory tests subsequently confirmed that the meat was beef. Two other accused, Ghulam Moin Qureshi and Vitthal Senma, were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
