I first knew
@sirpatstew, just barely, through his wife, the whip-smart singer and fellow food enthusiast
@madameozell (known to her friends as Sunny). Then fate and literature brought us closer: during Covid lockdown, with Hollywood at a standstill, Sir Pat decided to write his autobiography, all by himself. The pages numbered in the thousands. He was looking for a “book dramaturg” to help him tame the beast into a more focused memoir. Enter this writer. Imagine working elbow to elbow for hours on end with Sir Patrick Stewart, gabbing and breaking into song along the way! And then imagine capping the day with cocktails, expertly prepared by Sunny. And then more song, and good food. What a privilege to have these lovebirds as friends, and to have played a small part in bringing to fruition Patrick’s wonderful book, MAKING IT SO.
Knowing a fellow tippler when he saw one, Patrick presented to me perhaps the best gift I’ve ever received, an antique silver cocktail shaker engraved with his good wishes. I think about him every cocktail hour and always will.
