Albanian opposition lawmakers disrupted parliament in Tirana by lighting flares and smoke bombs and blocking the podium during a vote on legislation governing the central bank.

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha accused the government of using excessive force against student protesters demanding Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation, while four opposition MPs were expelled from the session.

The unrest follows weeks of demonstrations over alleged corruption, unemployment and education standards, with Rama rejecting calls to resign while offering economic concessions and tougher penalties for violent protests.

🇦🇱 Thank you for bringing international attention to Albania! October 29, 2026 — Look beyond the smoke in Parliament! Albanians have been protesting for over FIVE MONTHS against corruption, demanding Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation. While the opposition protests inside Parliament, legislation is being pushed through at alarming speed, raising serious concerns about corruption, accountability and democratic rights. New measures include fines of up to €5,500, potentially affecting even peaceful protesters. Meanwhile, serious allegations of police violence against students and citizens demand independent investigation. This is not just about smoke bombs or political confrontation. It is about democracy, justice and the voices of an entire nation! Please show the world the full picture — not just the smoke! 🇦🇱⚖️‼️
