If you spotted a little gnome
perched up above our day,
there’s a very good reason
he was tucked away.

Mum once rang my grandma
from her hospital bed,
at three in the bloody morning,
a little off her head.

“MUM, THEY’RE EYA,” she told her,
convinced she could see
tiny little gnomes
running round the tree
from the window of her room

It’s one of those family stories
we still tell and laugh about,
so when it came to our wedding,
I couldn’t leave them out.

There he sat, in his sunflower hat,
with the best view of “I do”,
a little family joke
that brought a bit of you.

I wanted you there in the laughter,
in the silliness we share,
and that little gnome above us
felt like having you there.

You saw your little gnomes, Mum,
running round that tree.
So I borrowed one for our wedding,
to watch over Shane and me. 💛

Thank you so much to my Dad too, he brought her nurse badge for me to wear, then Mandy & Shane, they had a pic I put next to my heart and will treasure forever of her.
