《철원 노동당사》
해방 이듬해인 1946년 철원은 소련군정 치하에 들어가게 되는데, 노동당사는 철원과 인근 지역을 관장하고 공산독재 강화와 주민통제를 목적으로 북한의 조선노동당이 세운 건물이다.

북한은 노동당사를 건축할 당시 지역 주민들의 노동력과 자금을 강제 수탈하여 만들었으며, 완공 후에는 이 곳에 반공 인사들을 감금하기도 했다.

이후 1950년 6.25 전쟁이 터지며 건물이 파괴되었는데, 건물 외벽에 남아 있는 포탄자국을 통해 그 당시 전쟁이 얼마나 치열했는지 알 수 있다.

6.25 전쟁을 통해 철원이 대한민국 영토로 편입됨으로써, 노동당사는 대한민국에 남은 몇 안되는 북한 건물로 현재는 국가등록문화유산 제22호로 지정되었다.

《The North Korean Workers' Party Headquarters in Cheorwon》
In 1946, the year following Korea's liberation, Cheorwon came under the administration of the Soviet military government. The North Korean Workers' Party Headquarters was built by the Workers' Party of North Korea to oversee Cheorwon and its surrounding areas, with the objectives of consolidating communist dictatorship and exerting control over the local population.

During its construction, the North Korean regime forcibly extracted labor and funds from the local residents. Once completed, the building was also used to detain individuals who opposed communism.

The building was destroyed following the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950; the shell marks still visible on its exterior walls bear witness to the intensity of the conflict at that time.

As a result of the Korean War, Cheorwon was incorporated into the territory of the Republic of Korea. Consequently, this former North Korean facility—one of the few such structures remaining in the South—has been designated as a Registered Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Korea (No. 22).
