‘Goes to Hell’ took Alice’s dark, mischievous persona and wrapped it in slick glam-rock and theatrical storytelling. From the iconic snarl on “Go to Hell” to the sinister groove of “You Gotta Dance,” the album is stylish and deliciously wicked.

I still have every original album and been going to the show since 73 again remember the COOP . there’s a picture out there I used to have it. He’s leaning on the stage during a band rehearsal in jean jacket and it’s written on the back of it.

I saw Alice twice . Once in the late 70's and again in the 80's. Lost my shoes at one and Alice caught my panties at the other. Threw them on the stage and he picked them up and smiled at me . Then leaned down and talked to a security guard who invited me and my friends to a party with Alice and the band guys at the hotel after the concert.

A friend of mine let me borrow Killer and School’s out, I was hooked. Goes To Hell was the first Coop album I actually bought. Had to save my alliance for a month. Ultra conservative parents were not too happy with the title, but let me explore music. Still a big Alice Cooper fan, met him a few times and have seen him 10 or 12 times. Took my then 8 year old daughter to see him and then when she was 9, saw him again.

![James — Percival Everett
Having read Uncle Tom’s Cabin, I was familiar with the horrors of slavery in literature, but Everett approaches the subject through satire, irony and linguistic ingenuity, exposing the moral contradictions of a society founded upon human ownership.

I have never considered basic human decency an exceptional virtue. Empathy, compassion and respect ought to be fundamental, not accomplishments deserving extraordinary praise. Perhaps that is why I found myself questioning the necessity of James’s resilience rather than celebrating it. Why should intelligence or courage ever be prerequisites for an ordinary human existence?
Equally compelling was James’s questioning of the white God. How could people profess faith in a compassionate deity while claiming moral authority over another person’s existence? What disturbed me was not the difference in religious interpretation, but the conviction that such interpretations could legitimise the denial of another’s humanity.
There is something profoundly moving about James writing his own name. In a novel concerned with language, power and the ownership of human lives, the simple act of naming oneself becomes an assertion of intellectual and personal sovereignty.
I loved particularly Everett’s examination of language and intellect. James must consciously disguise his intelligence, performing the very inferiority that white society invokes to justify his enslavement. The absurdity of this logic fascinated me: a society so convinced of its intellectual superiority that it demands the suppression of another’s intellect to preserve that conviction.
The very idea of a good master is a moral contradiction.
