2 hours agoIf I was the person having the birthday weekend I would only want people to come who really wanted to be there - not who felt some weird social obligation. The people who I choose to be my friends are the same way. Come if you can, don’t if you can’t, love you either way. I’m obsessed with my kids and my true friends are cool with that 😂
11 hours agoI’m confused why it has to be all or nothing. Why can’t she go for a night, without the “mortified” husband and leave him home with the toddler. Or, the couple goes up for the day and spends a day with her friends?
20 hours agoIf you dont have a trusted person to watch your kid I understand.....also if you dont want to spend the money then just don't? Its not that hard.....
21 hours agoThis is neither here nor there, but I keep seeing people using the word "mortified" in the weirdest ways. I think it is probably one of the most misused words out there. Usually I understand what they're trying to say in the context, but here I genuinely don't know what she thinks the word means. Mad? Annoyed?
a day agoEither choice is acceptable. We’re adults with free will. 2/3 of the country (America) is living paycheck to paycheck. Not everyone can just go spend a weekend away, plain and simple. When we consider Maslow, providing for your own family has to be #1. If it’s not in the budget, it’s not in the budget. And that’s for both parties.
a day agoI stopped at “husband being mortified” - I bet the wife isn’t mortified when HE goes and hangs out with his guys or goes golfing or whatever
a day agoJust don't go- we actually don't need the drawn out excuses. I also don't think the baby is the issue; this person would've used ANY excuse not to show up because her friend group WAS there to keep her company while she was husband hunting (that's why she made a short list of excuses- one of those is bound to work without argument). Another woman, just like her, commented with a similar sentiment.
a day agoI had two very obsessive parents but they still managed to have time for their friends. Kids come first, yes, but not to the exclusion of everyone else. They hardly ever spent a night away from me. Weekend with friends? Great! Baby comes too.
a day agoIt's valid to not feel ready to be away from your kid and it's valid to want to some time with friends. Everyone's situation and needs/ resources are different. It's not logically easy or feasible for some people to leave a child for a weekend, whether they want to support a friend or not.
a day agoEveryone is different. I have zero desire to be away from my husband and kids for even a night. I’d love to go out for two drinks and apps and a keke, then be home for bedtime. Not everyone is like that, and that’s ok.
