A special thank you to everyone who stood by Love, understood her side, and spoke up when she needed it the most. Every word of support, every voice that helped her side be heard, and every person who chose to understand her means more to us than words can express. In difficult moments like these, your support reminds us that she isn’t alone in this journey. We see you, we appreciate you, and we are truly grateful for every bit of love you have shown our Love. It means the world to us.

“MULE DEER” oil on canvas, 20 x 16, Colorado, 1987

“My intention here was to show the deer not as a figure apart from the landscape, but rather a part of the landscape itself. To do this, I had to integrate the pattern of light on the deer in such a way that she seemed to be growing out of the forest with everything else. It was wonderful once my painting started to become organized, and I could play with the patches of color while at the same time creating a strong but not immediately obvious pattern.” –RS, page 99, ALLA PRIMA II

For fifteen years, the original edition of ALLA PRIMA has been considered one of the most comprehensive art instruction books on the market and the standard in classical art education both in the United States and abroad. Whether you own an original ALLA PRIMA or are a first-time reader, you’ll love the new ALLA PRIMA II. Richard Schmid spent two years updating the original edition, allowing him to fine-tune and greatly expand what is generally regarded as the art world’s foremost book for painters seeking serious instruction in representational painting.
