3 days agobears dont truly hibernate, they go into a state of lowered body activity known as "torpor"! during torpor a bear's heart rate can decrease from 80-90 bpm to 8-10 bpm and they only need to breathe about once a minute, also only certain bears need to hibernate, with all bear species in subtropical and tropical zones foregoing it entirely, and polar bears only have pregnant mothers engage in torpor in the safety of a den for the duration of winter.
