What does it really mean to be seen?
Not just looked at, but truly seen. For who you are, what you've been through, and the person you still are when something as personal as your hair is taken away by breast cancer treatment.
We came together at the
@piccadillylights for our 2nd BOLD screening of the month, and our 3rd time appearing on the iconic Piccadilly Lights, the largest advertising screens in Europe.
And, it never gets old.
Women travelled from across the UK to stand together and see themselves celebrated on one of the world's most famous screens.
What began with just 13 incredible women (in London) has grown into a collection of 45 women photographed across the UK by the wonderfully talented
@caroline_sikkenk - Founder of the BOLD project.
Sadly, three of those women are no longer with us.
@thelindanolan, Sally and, more recently, Tansy. But their stories, their courage and their images remain. Their legacy continues every time someone sees these portraits and feels a little less alone.
Many of the women look very different today from the photographs taken during their treatment. Their hair has grown back, their lives have moved forward, and their stories continue to evolve. But the impact of those images hasn't diminished.
Because BOLD has never been just about breast cancer or losing your hair. It's about identity. Confidence. Vulnerability. Positivity. The way we see ourselves and, perhaps more importantly, the way the world sees us.
It's about challenging perceptions of what a woman going through cancer treatment should look like, and showing that beauty, femininity and strength don't disappear with your hair.
When I look at these women, I don't see illness. I see individuality, beauty, resilience and an extraordinary collective strength. And I see women who, by allowing themselves to be seen at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, are making a difference for the women who will come after them.
That's what makes BOLD so powerful.
Thank you to every woman who has trusted us with her story and to those who've have given these women a platform, because being seen matters!
