The quantity of words said right now means a lot less than the quality of the words said. Repeating how dire the financial situation is without opening your books to Symphony musicians tells me there’s no solution focused effort from the board. Support @phoenixsymphonymusicians directly if you feel compelled to donate.

The CEO and Board of Directors have clearly demonstrated a total lack of respect for not only the musicians and staff but also the supporters of the Phoenix Symphony. This was clearly a decision that was made long before the formal announcement and was likely timed to create chaos for the musicians and the public right before the holidays. Accepting a $6.5 million donation just days before the announcement is highly suspect. Sending out an email to the musicians literally while they are discussing their upcoming contract negotiations to notify them that they no longer have jobs was both cowardly and callous. Allowing new musicians to move to Phoenix knowing that you would be pulling the financial rug out from under them was unconscionable. And you now have the nerve to ask people to donate when you have clearly mismanaged the finances for months if not years? Come on! I will gladly support the musicians once they have established a fund but I will not support a CEO who makes triple what the talented musicians make but feels no obligation to those who provided a reason for that salary. Your letters are nothing more than word salad and carry no meaning whatsoever other than to demonstrate that you cannot be trusted with the management of this very fine orchestra.

Any recovery plan that doesn't include board resignations will be utterly insufficient!

1. Resignation/lay-off of CEO and President and all non essential administrative staff. 2. Designate and empower a small Orchestra musicians temporary crisis council. 3. Put in place a 100 day emergency plan and keep season/orchestra on. 4. After 100 days, approve 5-year governance/funding plan starting with guiding principles including compensation guidelines, musicians ownership (not employees) of the orchestra, artistic plan and critical success indicators moving forward. Goal: make orchestra self sustainable and please stop using musicians to beg for donations.

Why would I donate to an org that can’t handle their financials?

Is that a donation link to the musicians or to the organization that laid them off?

How do we get Mo & Peter to step aside? The financial details have shown out of control spending since 2021. They knew about the growing deficit and did not communicate effectively. It’s also not a good look for them to disparage the $6.5 million donation that is now being withdrawn.

Donate to the musicians group directly. Until the board releases their finances to the musicians it doesn't make sense to donate to the board that just took tens of millions from various groups and then laid everyone off

When will the board who steered this organization into ruin be replaced @phoenixsymphony?
