TANAPA WINS TWO EAST AFRICA REGIONAL AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING CONSERVATION WORK
Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has won two prestigious honours at the East Africa Conservation Excellence Awards 2026, recognising its outstanding contribution to wildlife protection, biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.
TANAPA received the Outstanding National Parks Conservation Company of the Year Award, while Ruaha National Park won the Excellence in Wildlife Conservation and Protected Area Management – National Park Award 2026. The awards were presented at Serena Hotel, Dar es Salaam, on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
The Guest of Honour, Mohamed R. Ally, Director of Business Support Services, representing Dr. Andrew M. Komba, CEO of the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), commended TANAPA for its conservation leadership and efforts to protect endangered species and biodiversity despite growing challenges.
He also highlighted Ruaha National Park’s contribution to food security through the protection of vital water sources that support irrigation, rainfall and agricultural production.
Receiving the awards on behalf of TANAPA Conservation Commissioner Massana Mwishawa, Ruaha National Park Commanding Officer, Assistant Conservation Commissioner Emmanuel Moirana, said the recognition would motivate TANAPA to strengthen conservation efforts and ensure natural resources continue contributing to economic growth, environmental sustainability and food security.
Tanzania has 21 National Parks, including world-renowned destinations such as Serengeti, Nyerere, Ruaha, Tarangire and Mount Kilimanjaro. These protected areas conserve vital ecosystems, protect wildlife and contribute to tourism, employment, investment and the national economy.
The awards followed an evaluation by the East Africa Conservation Excellence Awards Committee, recognising organisations advancing conservation, biodiversity protection, climate action and sustainable development. They also celebrate the dedication of TANAPA staff, government institutions, local communities and development partners in safeguarding Tanzania’s natural heritage for present and future generations.
