When Formula 1 returned to Mexico City in 2015 after a 23-year hiatus, Nico Rosberg became the first driver to lift a new trophy: a silver eagle designed by Mexican jewellery house TANE.

For my latest story in Esses, I looked at the history behind the Mexico City Grand Prix trophy, from Nino Bauti’s original design to the silversmithing tradition that helped shape it.
