Me quedΓ© sin palabras. The NYC Marathon was once an inconceivable dream of mine. I cheered on marathoners for years never thinking that could or would be me. How lucky am I to have been so wrong ❀️ My first marathon, and the first in my family. This race was for them, in honor of their story of migration to the best city in the world. They touched down in Queens, got married in Brooklyn, my mom worked in the Bronx, and I’ve planted roots in Harlem. I took a run not only through NYC but through my family’s journey here. Their grit has always reassured me that soy capaz de lo que sea, even when at times, I don’t believe it myself. What an honor it was to raise money for @nylagnews. Now more than ever, legal aid is so needed, especially for our immigrant New Yorkers I’m so thankful for all the love and support. Ayer, ustedes y esta ciudad me dieron un abrazote que jamΓ‘s olvidarΓ© First in my bloodline to say I’m a MF MARATHONER!!!!! QuΓ© locura! πŸ—½πŸͺ½ Special agradecimiento to my running family @pasorunclub @svintsrunclub @palmasny. You’ve turned miles into moments I could never forget @jorge.photog behind the lens of course 🫢🏽

From Karnataka's coastal town of Bhatkal to Michigan, Sarah Jukaku's story reflects a family journey spanning generations and countries. The wife of America's first Muslim senator, Abdul El-Sayed, Sarah was born and raised in Michigan in an Indian immigrant family. Her father, Dr. Tayeb Jukaku, hails from Bhatkal, while her grandfather, J.H. Shamsuddin Jukaku, was a prominent lawyer and politician. A psychiatrist by profession, Sarah studied at the University of Michigan, Oxford and Columbia University. Despite her husband's political prominence, she has largely stayed away from the campaign spotlight. #MidtermVerdict
It’s called the mental load for a reason, because it’s truly a load. There is so much to think about and plan and organize when it comes to running a household and raising kids. No wonder moms are burning out when they are the ones carrying the majority of it. I choose to believe that there are many men in relationships with women who genuinely think that asking for a list is a normal and logical thing to do. But it’s not the answer. Frankly, it just adds more work to the plate of their partners. It’s just another thing to do. It’s another thing to remember. Let’s stop assuming that every part of managing the household is a woman’s responsibility to begin with, and start having open honest conversations early on about what mental parts of managing the household can be redivided. What things can you redivide at home? Do you struggle to talk about the mental load? Comment β€œHonest Motherhood” and I will send you the link to my memoir where I share my own journey with breaking from carrying too much in motherhood. #motherhood #momlife #mentalload #sharetheload #divisionoflabor emotionallabor householdchores marriage
