Minoan Larnax with a Hunting Scene

This painted clay larnax was used as a funerary chest and comes from the Late Minoan cemetery of Armenoi, near Rethymno.

Its main panel shows a lively hunting scene with bulls, wild goats and human figures. The animals and hunters are highly stylised, almost abstract. Geometric patterns and flowing lines decorate the lid and the borders.

Even in death, the Minoans surrounded their loved ones with scenes from the world of the living. 🏺🤠
