Something I have come to realise over the years is just how lonely being a doctor can sometimes be.
Whether it is working nights or being on call, you quickly learn to become independent, make important decisions and figure things out as you progress through your career.
Between my busy NHS commitments and the additional work I pick up in the private sector, including 25-hour shifts like this one, there are sacrifices that come with it. Time with family, looking after my own health, studying, and sometimes just having a bit of time to switch off.
Somewhere along the way, you become so used to putting work first that you forget to check in with yourself. I suppose I am still figuring out how to look after myself while looking after everyone else.. and to be honest, I have NOT quite figured it out yet! 😵💫
