"What surprised me most about Bañado La Estrella is how alive it feels – it’s constantly transforming between dry and wet seasons, so the landscape is never really the same," says Lonely Planet Correspondent @gabitofranco of @tripinargentina, who visited the remote area, Argentina's second largest and most biodiverse wetland, for the first time with local photographer @pablomcordoba. If exploring remote places teeming with wildlife so much it "feels like stepping into Jurassic Park" is your ideal trip, add Bañado La Estrella to your list. Aim to go in September, the peak month for bird-watching and other wildlife sightings, like Gabriel did.

A landscape that changes with every season is such a good reason to go back twice. Bañado La Estrella deserves way more attention.

A wetland that redraws itself between seasons is something to see. Going with a local guide is the only way in, and worth planning the trip around the water levels.

Good to know September is the peak for birdwatching here. I'd pack a proper zoom lens and strong bug spray, since wetland wildlife keeps its distance from boats and the mosquitoes never take a day off.

The way those bare trees reflect in the water at sunset is stunning. Is September really the best time to see the birds there?
