on this Undas (Filipino Day of Remembrance), I reflect on the conscious effort my dad made to be present for his children despite his chronic illness up until his death. I reflect on the sacrifices my mother made to keep our world afloat, especially during those earlier times. I am grateful that I continue to learn from my father's story, his triumphs and his shortcomings, even now after his death. I am privileged that my parents, once separated by oceans and immigration status and sickness, were lucky enough to reunite and provide a loving foundation for my brother and me. it wasn't perfect but it was ours. I am saddened by the idea that there are so many immigrant and migrant communities who don't get that privilege. I am inspired by their strength and resilience in spite of this, and the fervor of those who fight on their behalf.
