POSTS STORIES REELS
my pare @dcsantos9 hit me up about an idea for a song called Manong Energy, and I knew I needed to dedicate a verse to the Manongs of Seattle ManilaTown/FilipinoTown @filipinotown.seattle in Chinatown International District, past and present. For all the manong & manang stories we know, for all the stories forgotten, and for all the stories yet to be told. Coastline ft. @sendai_era & produced by @ojtheproducer is now available for streaming with NEW watercolor artwork by the incredible @allancarandang_art Coastline is also available for digital download on Bandcamp, with all download sales proceeds continuing to support @filamushistory206 educators. History teaches us that every people's struggle is deeply connected... and none of us are free until we all are free, from coastline to coastline. This song is grounded in that mantra. I'm honored to have the homies from Sendai Era, emcees, musicians, storytellers, activists, & educators whom I deeply admire, feature on this track with a poignant personal call-to-action to resist the systemic oppression facing our families and communities. They just released a new album called Cascade Migrant that weaves storytelling with rallying cries, and connects history to the intimate day-to-day moments of being in community. Grateful to Allan Carandang for bringing to life how interconnected we truly are throughout the diaspora. From the US to the Philippines, your people's homeland to my people's homeland, city to city, coast to coast. on this Undas (Filipino Day of Remembrance), I reflect on the conscious effort my dad made to be present for his children despite his chronic illness up until his death. I reflect on the sacrifices my mother made to keep our world afloat, especially during those earlier times. I am grateful that I continue to learn from my father's story, his triumphs and his shortcomings, even now after his death. I am privileged that my parents, once separated by oceans and immigration status and sickness, were lucky enough to reunite and provide a loving foundation for my brother and me. it wasn't perfect but it was ours. I am saddened by the idea that there are so many immigrant and migrant communities who don't get that privilege. I am inspired by their strength and resilience in spite of this, and the fervor of those who fight on their behalf. 🎵: story (live at SoFar Seattle) from my EP "sidesteps" - a project that draws parallels between mine and my parents' stories as young adults trying to find meaning and connection. by @dahlaymusic
