We’re sucking through a straw that falls apart while holding an entire plastic cup.
And now a South Korean government-commissioned study found conventional plastic straws had the lowest environmental impact in 10 of 16 categories, including climate change and air pollution, under the conditions studied. (m.koreaherald.com)
So here’s a thought: measure the environmental impact of the WHOLE product before declaring victory over the straw.
The materials. The manufacturing. The shipping. The disposal.
If the goal is less waste and less pollution, show us whether we’re actually achieving it.

Or how Austin outlawed plastic bags at the grocery store so you’d bring reusable yet literally everything is sold in a plastic container: your berries, your meat, your junk food. And when you want to line your small trash cans you’ll just buy the roll of liners when the store no longer offers them. Makes sense 🙄.

the same thing applies for them battery-electric cars sold in our Automotive Industry.. the entire process: Raw material sourcing [Lithium, Nickel Cobalt ore extraction] The shipping/transportation of those raw materials The. manufacturing of the Li-ion batteries thst power them.. from the sent Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt ores And the disposal of them.. This is just one example.. weighing the environmental impact on every item made [including plastic VS paper straws, etc. counts for everything.. like @ryanwilliamscanada explained
