Cardi B is speaking out after comedian Mona said colorism is why Cardi gets brand deals that dark skinned women don’t. Mona, who called herself a fan, argued that being light skinned and Dominican gave Cardi an edge, following a resurfaced 2024 clip where Cardi acknowledged she benefits from colorism. Cardi responded on X, saying the 13 second clip came from a 15 minute live and that she has never denied colorism is real. She said people noticed her teeth, acne and braids long before her skin, and credited her success to hard work, strategy and talent. She also said she’s upset with Mona, claiming the comedian has been in her DMs for years asking for career advice but never asked her about the clip.
