Cardi responded on X, saying the 13 second clip came from a 15 minute live and that she has never denied colorism is real. She said people noticed her teeth, acne and braids long before her skin, and credited her success to hard work, strategy and talent.
She also said she’s upset with Mona, claiming the comedian has been in her DMs for years asking for career advice but never asked her about the clip. She accused Mona of using her as a shield after backlash over comments about Tia Kemp, adding, “Whats that if its not colorism?”

I don't think her career was solely due to that. She is a whole brand. She stands up for the little less rich folx and is an awesome Mom. So that prob why she gets certain deals and stuff based off a lot of reason. She REALLY started from the bottom now she hea! #cardib Say less boo she just a hater. She way lighter than her soooooo does she do the same? Also, I think her being Dominican makes her struggle harder especially in this current environment and the way people think.
