I start with studies + drawings in my sketch book - nutting out which little vessel friends to include in the composition, then I draw with white charcoal + paint. I have a plan + an intention but usually the painting has its own life + it heads off in its own direction. Until I think maybe that’s finished. I sit with it, looking + judging - sometimes I’ll photograph it + take a look at it on my screen to see it differently. I was listening to the radio + a writer was talking about his process - getting in the flow + not being able to continue in the direction initially intended. The passage has its own life. Song writers have the same thing happen. The creative process?!?!! It’s all a bit of a mystery!
