I think that we need to change the lens on how we judge him or how the roster construction needs to be with a 1, 2nd option, etc. Chet and JDub are arguably 2a and 2b so you don’t need to have clear 2nd option per se, you just need pieces that fit well, especially with Luka. In that sense, they do and probably will finish up top backcourt or top scoring duo. If other pieces fit like how Luka’s Dallas team fit, they can contend. AR puts up comparable numbers to Kyrie if you take last year’s vs Kyrie’s. If AR continues to improve with more usage this year, his numbers will be better than Kyrie’s. I think the last few games Sexton has been on the ball most possessions when Luka is out at least to start it then can’t create shots for the team like Luka and AR, AR gets the ball sometimes with the clock running out and offense is stagnant or ball is turned over leading to fast breaks, etc. AR needs to better in several areas, including his strength and reduce TOs. They also need to get the ball to him sooner when Luka is out. We can see that they’re still missing a piece or two to be real contenders but if they had the backup big and maybe 1 more 4, AR won’t be the reason they can’t contend.

Keep in mind that LeBron just left and the real spending might not start until next year or the year after that. We all know this is not the team that’s gonna win at all.. but we did have to keep Reeves and technically we got a decent deal on him. We are clearly looking for another star and I know a lot of people want it to be Joker.. This team is probably gonna look a lot different in two years.

Luka is averaging 37 points a game which means he has the ball most of the time. What do you expect a second option to do?? We have bigger needs than another superstar if that’s what’s you’re looking for from a second option.
