A little reminder to make life an experience, not just something to get through. We’ve become so accustomed to convenience, efficiency, and getting things done that I think we’ve forgotten the beauty of the process. Making coffee doesn’t have to be something you quickly prepare before moving on to the next thing. It can be an excuse to step outside, light a fire, watch the afternoon unfold, and take a little time for yourself. Cook over an open flame. Make food from scratch. Gather around the table. Let the children help. Spend time outside, even when there’s no particular reason to be out there. Slowing down enough to participate in the ordinary things that make up our days, is what makes life special. I think we often look forward to the big moments in life while overlooking the thousands of little experiences that are actually our lives. And perhaps a more nourishing way to live begins with learning to enjoy those moments again. Not every part of life needs to be optimized, rushed, or turned into another task to check off. Sometimes you just need to make a fire, brew your coffee, breathe in the fresh air, and be where your feet are. Make a life you actually get to experience while you’re living it.☕️🪵🥛
Kenyan women are having fewer children, with the national fertility rate dropping from 3.4 in 2022 to 3.1 in 2025, a new survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) shows. The rate has been declining for decades, from 6.7 in 1988 to 4.7 in 1998 and 3.9 in 2014. Embu recorded the lowest fertility rate at 2.2 children per woman, followed by Kiambu and Mombasa at 2.3, Nairobi and Kericho at 2.6, and Kirinyaga and Tharaka Nithi at 2.7. Mandera recorded the highest rate at 6.8, followed by Wajir at 5.8, Tana River at 5.7, Turkana at 5.6, Garissa at 5.3, West Pokot at 5.1 and Samburu at 5.0. The survey found that women in rural areas have an average of 3.6 children compared to 2.6 in towns. Women with no formal education recorded 5.4 children compared to 2.7 among those educated beyond secondary school. Women from poorer households also have more children than those from wealthier families. More women are delaying childbirth, with births now highest among those aged 25 to 29. Teenage pregnancies have also dropped from 14.8% in 2022 to 11.9%, although West Pokot, Migori and Kajiado still record the highest rates at 25%, 23% and 20%. Family planning is also influencing the decline, with about 56% of married women using modern contraceptives. Murang’a leads at 76%, while Mandera records less than 1%. However, 16% of married women still have an unmet need for contraception.
I’m still processing yesterday. I never imagined myself doing a full marathon and here I am on the other side of it. And I’ll say this: the marathon was the party. I had the best time on this run. Kept it controlled and stuck to my plan and while it was insanely hard it was also an absolute blast. • So am I proud of myself? Very - the marathon was a celebration of months of disciplined work. Early mornings. Long and lonely runs. Days where I said I was going to give up. Injury. Fatigue. Exhaustion. And yet somehow I pushed and accomplished something beyond what I ever thought I could. • Special thank you to my wife @penkunstler for supporting me along this journey and showing up at mile 23 when I needed it most. Could not have done it without you. • @nati_haboura you believed I could. Answered every voicenote of frustration with one of motivation. Reminded me every step of the way that the hard days are the exception. So grateful to you. • @moshebindler - the shift in our training hands down is the reason my legs were so strong on this course with such crazy elevation. Precision focus on what I needed to do to be the most efficient and strong on my feet. • @smiriam2 - the best ever! Thanks for the encouragement and getting me home earlier!
