The blue opera

The Blue Opera premiered on a rainy autumn Monday. Everyone did their best to take it seriously. As you can see, that went spectacularly well.

Relations I was thinking about what happens in relationships, both in the short and long term. We give something of ourselves, we take something from the other person, and we also add something to one another. In this bizarre scene, I tried to capture all of these dynamics at once the continuous exchange through which two people gradually shape, transform, and redefine each other. #relationships #absurd #surreal #vintagestyle #bizarre
Japan it took me almost ten years to return to my favourite surreal world on Earth. The endless kindness of the people, the delicate little details, and the fact that we do not always have to take ourselves completely seriously never cease to amaze me. I love being here. I am enjoying every single moment. Thank you, Japan. You are truly impossible not to love. Music by: @alphaville.music #japan #surreal #vintagestyle #japanese #cartoon
Everyday masking. I’m surely not alone in this, others also wear masks in their everyday lives. Of course, through these masks only as much becomes visible as we want, or as much as we feel we absolutely have to allow through in order to feel safe. And then everything seems to be in its place. @radiohead #dark #surreal #mask #vintagestyle
llusionist As we prepare for the June 20 premiere of Wunderland by the @alexeiratmansky at the Hamburg Ballet, where I designed the costumes, I spend my days sitting through rehearsal after rehearsal, watching an endlessly flowing surreal world gradually take shape under Ratmansky’s hands. While I watch this unfold during the day, at night my own characters come alive. They begin their own peculiar performance: running, jumping, spinning, and, of course, transforming everything becoming everything else. I tried to choreograph this dreamlike spectacle into a little over one minute of animation, set to music by Nino Rota. #ballet #surreal #ninorota #collage
A fairytale made of lines. I created a fairytale entirely out of lines, and I loved the result so much that, in Spoleto, I developed a similar line-based theatrical piece for the Festival dei Due Mondi, in memory of Gian Carlo Menotti. The figures move almost like ghosts drifting through the architecture. #surreal #fairytale #lines #digitalart
Nova Casanova Everyone thinks Casanova was simply a charming womanizer, but perhaps he was more of a survival artist. And yet, somehow, at the end of his life, he ended up poor, working as a librarian. In this case, I have removed Casanova’s fixed gender identity: Nova Casanova becomes both female and male, or something in between. The reactions to seduction are also strange and unexpected. Some respond with thorns, others by eating flowers. I hope everyone draws the appropriate lesson. For this piece, I tried to let the videos breathe, keeping them longer and avoiding overcrowding within the 1.5-minute frame. #casanova #italy #surreal #glamour #charming
