Have you heard of these veiled or en caul or #mermaid births?

In ancient times people thought they would have magical abilities!

In Swedish it is colloquially known as being born with a "victory caul" - "segerhuva". It was believed to be good luck, foretelling a life of good fortune, special abilities or even psychic powers.

It’s only rare because L&D staff routinely break water bags during labor. My grandson was born en caul. It was a home birth with a midwife attending. The intact membrane protected my daughter from serious tearing, because he was a hand presentation. If she had been in hospital, they probably would have broken her bag and she would have had serious tearing from the hand.
