MEDIA RELEASE
Saturday at 09:44 a.m., Summerville Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of McGrady Drive.
The first-arriving engine arrived at a two-story residence with smoke and fire showing from the back side of the home, extending into the attic. Firefighters initiated a offensive attack and had the fire under control within approximately 10 minutes on scene.
The residence was not occupied at the time of the fire.
The Fire Marshal’s Division was on scene to complete an investigation.
No injuries were reported. The fire has displaced the family, and the American Red Cross was assisting them with their immediate needs.
Every fire reminds us that preparedness matters. Our recent time change serves as a great reminder to change those smoke alarm batteries and test them as well. Working smoke alarms, a well-practiced home escape plan, and knowing two ways out of every room can make all the difference during an emergency.
