October’s Incident Breakdown #summervillesc #summervillefirerescue by @summerville_fd
Blitz is back! Summerville Fire Rescue will soon conduct a smoke alarm blitz in a portion of the Corey Woods neighborhood. The blitz is a two-day initiative. Our volunteers will go door-to-door tomorrow, November 3rd (5-7 p.m.), to let residents know we will return on November 10th (5-7 p.m.) to offer home safety checks. This smoke alarm blitz allows us to assist homeowners with their smoke alarms and home escape plans. We can also address any other fire and life safety questions or concerns that residents may have. We will continue to visit other neighborhoods in our response districts to assist our citizens. #smokealarmssavelives #summervillesc by @summerville_fd
MEDIA RELEASE Saturday at 09:44 a.m., Summerville Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of McGrady Drive. The first-arriving engine arrived at a two-story residence with smoke and fire showing from the back side of the home, extending into the attic. Firefighters initiated a offensive attack and had the fire under control within approximately 10 minutes on scene. The residence was not occupied at the time of the fire. The Fire Marshal’s Division was on scene to complete an investigation. No injuries were reported. The fire has displaced the family, and the American Red Cross was assisting them with their immediate needs. Every fire reminds us that preparedness matters. Our recent time change serves as a great reminder to change those smoke alarm batteries and test them as well. Working smoke alarms, a well-practiced home escape plan, and knowing two ways out of every room can make all the difference during an emergency. #SummervilleFireRescue #StructureFire #SmokeAlarmsSaveLives by @summerville_fd
TIME TO CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS… AND CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS! As we prepare to turn our clocks back, take a few extra minutes to make sure your home and family are protected. Change your clocks, change those batteries, and TEST your smoke alarms! Here are a few important smoke alarm safety reminders: 🔋 Replace batteries as needed and test every smoke alarm to make sure it is working properly. 🚨 Interconnected smoke alarms are best! When one alarm sounds, all alarms throughout the home sound, giving everyone more time to get to safety. 🏡 Make sure you have smoke alarms: On every level of your home. Inside every bedroom. Outside each sleeping area. In living rooms and other common areas. Change Your Clocks. Change Your Batteries. Test Your Alarms. SAVE LIVES! #FireSafety #SmokeAlarmSafety #ChangeYourClocks #FirePrevention by @summerville_fd
🎃👻 HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM SUMMERVILLE FIRE RESCUE! 🚒🧡 Wishing all our Summerville families a fun, safe, and SPOOKTACULAR Halloween! As little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses hit the streets for trick-or-treating, let’s keep safety at the top of our list! 🕸️ TRICK-OR-TREAT SAFETY TIPS: 🎃 Carry a flashlight or glow stick to help you see and be seen. 🚶 Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible. Look both ways before crossing the street. 👻 Wear costumes that fit properly to avoid trips and falls. 🔦 Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags. 🍬 Trick-or-treat with an adult and stay with your group. 🚗 Watch for vehicles and never assume drivers can see you. 🏠 Only visit homes with their porch lights on. 🔥 HALLOWEEN FIRE SAFETY: Choose flame-resistant costumes and decorations. Keep decorations away from candles, open flames, and other heat sources. Use battery-operated candles or LED lights instead of real candles in jack-o’-lanterns. Keep exits, doorways, and walkways clear of decorations. Never leave candles unattended. Make sure smoke alarms are working properly in your home. ❤️ From our Summerville Fire Rescue family to yours, have a BOO-tiful Halloween! Have fun, look out for one another, and make memories that are sweet — not scary! Stay Safe, Summerville! 🚒🎃 #SummervilleFireRescue #HappyHalloween #HalloweenSafety #FirePrevention #TrickOrTreatSafety CommunitySafety by @summerville_fd
WE HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM, SUMMERVILLE! We noticed something a little suspicious at our Ghostwalk last week… LOTS of kids dressed up as police officers, but where are all the little firefighters?! We’re not saying we’re hurt… but we may need to step up our recruitment efforts! We are proud of our brothers and sisters @summervillepolice , but we hope to see a few more future firefighters out tomorrow for Halloween! #SummervilleFireRescue #FutureFirefighters #HalloweenFun #futurepoliceofficer #RecruitmentStartsYoung by @summerville_fd
Engine 301 A-Shift was back at SCS today to continue teaching our local students about fire and life safety. We are thankful for all of the opportunities we have had this month to educate our local students about best practices and preparedness! Remember to … 1. Create an escape plan (home fire drills) 2. Have working smoke alarms and test 3. Close before you dose 4. Get low and go Smoke makes it difficult to see in a fire, damages our lungs, and displaces oxygen. Smoke rises, then banks back down, so stay below it. Get low and go quickly to a safe exit; know two ways out of every room. If there is smoke or heat on the other side of the closed door, go to the window to exit or call for help. #firepreventionmonth #getlowandgo #fireandlifesafety by @summerville_fd
Happy First Responder Day! Today, we want to recognize and thank our fellow first responders across all agencies who work alongside us and serve our community every day. Our work wouldn’t be possible without the partnerships, teamwork, trust, and mutual support we share. Whether responding to emergencies, facing difficult situations, or simply being there when another agency needs a hand, we know we can count on one another to get the job done and make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you for having our backs, for standing beside us, and for being the partners we can rely on. We are proud to serve alongside you and are thankful for the relationships we have built together. Wishing all of our fellow first responders a safe and meaningful First Responder Day. Stay safe out there, and thank you for all you do! #nationalfiratrespondersday #summervillesc #dispatcher #police #ems by @summerville_fd
Close before you doze. Today, Engine 306 continued our Fire Prevention activities with students @summervillecatholic. Another important message we are sending home is to sleep with bedroom doors closed. Sleeping with your bedroom door closed is a simple action that could potentially save a life in a fire. Closing doors can slow the spread of fire and smoke and keep compartment temperatures much lower. Smoke inhalation can damage our airways and lungs; it contains toxic chemicals that reduce oxygen delivery to the body. Closing your bedroom door before sleeping can buy precious time. #firepreventionmonth #closebeforeyoudoze #fireandlifesafety by @summerville_fd
Working smoke alarms save lives. Today we had the pleasure of teaching friends at KMC CDC about fire and life safety. When they hear that smoke alarm at home do they know what to do? We want our little friends to go outside then they hear their home smoke alarms beep, beep, beeping! (Just like a school alarm) It is important to have properly working smoke alarms in your home. Place smoke alarms on every level of the residence, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping units. For best protection, use interconnected smoke alarms, test regularly, and replace them after 10 years. Take a moment to test your smoke alarms today and discuss where your family should meet in the event it is not a drill. #firesafety #firepreventionmonth #testittuesday by @summerville_fd
Congratulations to Third Driver Christian Woods! Please join us in congratulating Christian Woods on completing his testing and earning his promotion to engine Third Driver! His hard work and dedication to learning and training to become a third driver paid off, as reflected in his successful testing. We are proud of the hours of training he put in to reach this milestone in his fire career. Congratulations, Woods! We wish you continued success in your new role. Keep up the great work! #Summervillefirerescue #Congratulations #Promotion #Thirddriver by @summerville_fd
Create an escape plan. Fire Prevention Week may have ended, but we still have many schools to visit this month to teach our young community members how to stay safe in a home fire. Did you know most kids know what to do and where to go in a school fire but have no fire escape plan at home?! While our students practice fire drills at school, we want to make sure they take that knowledge home, too! We encourage every family to sit down together, create a home fire escape plan, identify two ways out of every room, and choose a safe meeting spot outside. A little preparation today can make a life-saving difference tomorrow! #FirePreventionMonth #FireSafety #HomeFireEscapePlan #CommunityStrong #FireAndLifeSafety by @summerville_fd
