An NYPD officer who battled breast cancer twice in one year crosses the New York City Marathon finish line cancer-free, marking her 13th marathon and her first since beating the disease.
Tatiana Simons completes the 26.2-mile race just days after being promoted to sergeant, finishing in 4 hours, 20 minutes and 45 seconds.
Earlier in her cancer battle, Simons ran the Boston Marathon knowing she would undergo a double mastectomy the very next morning. Even after her cancer returned, she refused to give up running.
Now, she’s sharing a message of hope: “Even though you might have a setback, it doesn’t define you.”
