CHAPTER 4 : THE WISE OLE WART 🎂
This year on Halloween night, I closed the door on an another decade of life. I could’ve celebrated this milestone in many ways, but I chose this year to do it with my family. I can count maybe 1 or 2 other birthday’s I’ve shared passed high school with them.
Being raised in SC and having many moments of wishing I was anywhere else, I have learned through the years—— how lucky I am.
I appreciate the simplicity here. The comforts. The ease. The honesty.
In the past it has challenged me but now grounds me.
I was raised in the surroundings of people who have loved me through every variation and version of myself. No matter where and what I am doing with my life, their prayers and warm wishes have lifted me and supported me without question. They know not much about what I do for a living other then the performances they see or hear about or why I moved myself across the country to do it.
They have championed me every single step of the way!
When I started a career in dance, I knew very little outside of my passion for it, what was in store for me or what I would have to endure. I am proud to say, It’s been 22 years of pursuing this dream and I have achieved way more than I could’ve ever thought possible.
EVERYTIME I come home to this place, especially during harder seasons of life —— I am filled to the brim with effortless, unquestionable, unconditional love… and I didn’t realize into more recently how rare that truly is.
That’s the compass I’ve used throughout my life. LOVE. In all ways, always. For me, that’s bigger than any win.
To be supported and given the choice as a teenager to pursue my heart’s passions, is something I’ll never take for granted.
From a little shy and timid kid, to the bold and brave artist I have become— I know I have earned my place here. Through every season and every year, I am more and more myself and fulfilled knowing love has brought me to this place and love will continue to guide me through every decade here after.
