Midnight Transmission

Tonight on Midnight Transmission, I’m bringing you one of the records that made 1999 such a huge year for trance. Veracocha’s Carte Blanche is one I’d expect to find in almost every trance head’s archive.

Behind that name are Ferry Corsten and Vincent de Moor. They made it in Ferry’s bedroom studio at his parents’ house, after spending hours trying to find the hook.

Vincent stepped away for a cigarette while Ferry kept improvising. Then Vincent called across the attic to ask what he’d just heard. Ferry only remembered parts, so they pieced the melody back together between them.

Think about that when the lead opens up. A phrase they had to reconstruct became the part so many of us recognise before the ID appears.

Give that melody the room it deserves tonight.
