Artists Speak To The Universe

Amid Detroit’s industrial decline, Juan Atkins gave voice to a new vision of the future.

He called it techno.

Through Cybotron, Model 500 and Metroplex, he helped establish a musical language whose influence would extend far beyond Detroit. Synthesizers, drum machines and circuitry became instruments of profound human expression. In his hands, electricity acquired rhythm, atmosphere and feeling.

To me, his work speaks to something sacred in sound: its capacity to stir what language cannot express. He approached music with the curiosity of an experimenter and the sensitivity of a sculptor, giving form to the possibilities he heard.

This is the spirit behind ARTISTS SPEAK TO THE UNIVERSE: to create with conviction, to offer something of ourselves to the unknown, and to trust that it may resonate with another.

To me, techno is a transformative rebellion: a creative force that can unsettle familiar ways of thinking and open us to new possibilities.

To our community: let us remember the roots and the ethos of this music.

Honour its rebellious origins and the pioneers who approached technology with imagination, independence and a willingness to challenge convention.

That spirit deserves greater space in our events and on our dance floors. In a culture increasingly preoccupied with screens, Instagram stories and the idolisation of DJs, we risk overlooking the encounter itself: the music, the sound, the people beside us, and what we might discover through listening.

Celebrate the artists, and preserve the freedom they helped create. Be present. Allow the music to challenge you, move you and leave you changed.
