Republicans are trying to ban gender-affirming health care for minors under the banner of protecting kids. But what are they actually protecting kids from?
Gender-affirming surgery for minors is extremely rare. According to a Harvard study, only 0.0021% of older teens (ages 15-17) have had gender-affirming surgery.
You know what's not rare? Trans youth attempting suicide. Studies consistently show a third to half of all trans youth will attempt suicide.
The data points one direction: what protects trans kids is supportive adults. In our communities, that means showing up for all of our relatives. 🏳️⚧️

I believe it's similar for gay youth. Having gay clubs or pride flags doesn't make people gay. But it gives them a safe space where they don't have to feel alone.
