Everything we know about the first Thanksgiving comes from a few paragraphs Edward Winslow wrote in a letter, printed in a 1622 pamphlet meant to attract more settlers. It's the only eyewitness account of the feast that survives. He described the food and the guests. He never called it Thanksgiving.
